Luke Fickell explained what made Wisconsin his next destination as the future Badger’s head coach on ESPN’s ‘Keyshawn, JWill & Max’ show. Fickell was outstanding at Cincinnati with an overall 57-18 record and last season made an appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Fickell initially made a big name for himself nationally when he took Cincinnati to a New Year Six bowl against Georgia after another successful season with the Bearcats. In that game, his team gave one of the nation’s top programs everything they could and fell short to a last minute field goal.
“It all started with timing. All of a sudden things started to work out timing wise where if you’re gonna do this, your kids are at a certain age and that’s important to us. My wife and I had always had this thought of: ‘If these things would happen, where would you pick and move the family?’”
The culture of Wisconsin also had a role in his decision.
“From afar I’ve loved the culture here. At times didn’t like them because we had to play them, we had to compete against them. We felt like the city was somewhere our family could thrive in. It all kinda came to fruition, timing was everything.”
