Two Nebraska Cornhuskers entered the transfer portal following Matt Rhule’s hiring.

Rhule was hired at the end of the regular season as Nebraska’s head coach. As Rhule ushered in a new era at Nebraska, the program lost several players to the transfer portal. Nebraska wide receiver Kamonte Grimes and defensive back Jaeden Gould entered the transfer portal this week.

It is customary in college football for players to leave when a new head coach arrives. Grimes, who is a redshirt freshman, never played in a game at Nebraska in 2 seasons. Grimes was a 3-star recruit from Naples, Florida, per the 247Sports Composite. Grimes went to Nebraska over Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

For Gould, he will be leaving Nebraska after his freshman season. In his lone season, Gould played in 1 game against Oklahoma in 2022. He was redshirted for the remainder of the season. The 247Sports Composite rankings had Gould rated as a 4-star recruit from New Jersey. He was the No. 3 recruit in New Jersey in the 2022 recruiting class. Gould chose Nebraska in favor of Penn State and USC.

Nebraska will move forward with the current roster and will likely add more pieces through recruiting and the transfer portal.
