Harper spent four years with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles before transferring to Jacksonville State, where he became star on the field. During the 2021 season, Harper amassed 92 tackles, 3 interceptions and 2.5 tackles for loss. Harper was also named AP First Team FCS All-American and was also an all-conference selection. Harper also had a short stop in Louisville this season before making the decision to transfer.
Harper will not only add depth to the Illini line but will fit in well with DC Ryan Walters’ defensive scheme that prominently features the DB position. Walters has built major success with other DBs recently, including Kerby Joseph, Sydney Brown, and Devon Witherspoon. Joseph is impressing as a rookie in the NFL, Brown has had a versatile college career, and Witherspoon is a Thorpe Award finalist.
