Colorado AD has a bizarre response to how Buffs got the money to pay Deion Sanders
Colorado made a huge move Saturday evening, hiring former Jackson State head coach and NFL star Deion Sanders to be its next football head coach.
Reports are out that Sanders signed a 5-year, $29.5 million deal that will average just under $6 million per year. That’s considerably more than the Buffs paid former head coach Karl Dorrell before he was fired earlier in the year.
Deion Sanders’ deal with Colorado is 5 years, $29.5 million – an average of $5.9M/year. He’ll make $5.5M in the first year, with raises of $200K every year. Up to now, the $3.6M paid to Karl Dorrell this year was the most CU has paid to a head coach. #cubuffs

But it gets better.
Athletic Director Rick George was asked Sunday how Colorado came up with the money to pay Sanders. His response, though not intended to be, was a little bizarre.
Colorado AD Rick George was asked how CU came up with the money to hire Deion Sanders. He said, “We don’t have the money yet, but I know we’ll have it, so I’m not worried about that piece.” #cubuffs

Hey, at least he’s honest!
In all likelihood, a donor probably pledged a certain amount to the Buffs program. Colorado, which finished 1-11 this season, is already looking up with a strong hire from a coach some consider to be a major boost to any university. After all, who wouldn’t want to play for Coach Prime?
