Bad news came out of Ann Arbor on Monday morning, as Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh announced that Wilton Speight will miss multiple weeks due to an injury sustained against Purdue.

Harbaugh addressed the media in his weekly press conference and said that John O’Korn would get the start against Michigan State this Saturday. Brandon Peters will serve as the backup.

Speight suffered a nasty hit against Purdue two weekends ago and left the game midway through the first quarter. It was a hit Harbaugh described as “egregious.”

On the season, Speight has completed 44-of-81 passes for 581 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also thrown two interceptions.

O’Korn has appeared in three games this season and led Michigan to a win over Purdue in the B1G opener. He completed 18-of-26 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown in the victory. He had thrown just one pass this season before the game in West Lafayette.

This is nothing new for O’Korn, who stepped in as the starter a year ago when Speight was out for Michigan’s final home game against Indiana. He struggled in that outing, completing just 7-of-18 passes.

Michigan is scheduled to play Michigan State at 7:30 p.m.
