Illinois football reportedly had a player enter the transfer portal on Friday. It was freshman OL Matt Fries, according to FarrellPortal on Twitter.
Fries did not play in a single game for the Fighting Illini this season. Fries was a member of the 2022 recruiting class and a former 3-star OL per the 247Sports Composite. Fries originally picked Illinois over Arizona State, Indiana, Akron, and Arizona.
Fries was highly recruited out of Cranford, New Jersey and had a total of 27 offers according to 247Sports. Other B1G schools that had interest in Fries as a recruit were Wisconsin and Rutgers.

Wherever Fries decides to go he could be a problem for defensive linemen. Fries comes in at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds with plenty of eligibility left in his college career.
Like many players in the college football world, Fries is taking advantage of the transfer portal window which opened on Dec. 5. The window officially closes on Jan. 18, 2023.
