Johnson was a 4-star recruit out of Bellevue, Nebraska in the class of 2021. Johnson was the 3rd-best prospect in Nebraska and had offers from Iowa State and Kansas State, among others.
Johnson chose to attend Iowa and immediately had an impact. In 2021, Johnson led all Hawkeye receivers with 352 receiving yards. In 2022, Johnson was only able to play in 2 games due to a soft tissue injury.
It is not a bold statement to say that the Hawkeye passing attack left much to be desired in 2022. The Hawkeyes ranked 123rd in the nation for passing offense. The leading WR for the Hawkeyes was Nico Ragaini, who ended with 365 yards.
Losing a receiver like Johnson will not make things easier for new QB Cade McNamara.
