Mississippi State University has announced that Mike Leach has been taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson by ambulance early on Sunday, according to a statement from University president Mark Keenum and interim AD Bracky Brett. The Mississippi State Bulldogs football head coach was taken from his home.

It is currently unknown how serious Leach’s condition is and for what emergency.

Keenum and Brett also said in a statement that Bulldogs defensive coordinator Zach Arnett will temporarily lead the team in preparation for the 2023 ReliaQuest Bowl against the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Leach is in his third season as head coach of Mississippi State. He has coached the Bulldogs to an overall record of 8-4 through the 2022 regular season, the first time that the team has accounted for eight wins in a season since 2018.

Leach spent the previous eight seasons as head coach of Washington State from 2012 to 2019 and 10 seasons at Texas Tech from 2000 to 2009. Leach has accumulated an overall record of 158-107 through all three schools as head coach.
