UAB is doing something incredibly awesome this weekend.

During UAB’s homecoming game on Saturday against Louisiana Tech, the Blazers will wear the names of patients at Children’s Harbor on the back of their jerseys. Each patient has been designated a specific player/jersey number for the game.

The Blazers tweeted out the chart on Thursday.

According to UAB’s athletic website, Children’s Harbor is just one block from campus and is one of the primary charities the Blazers are supporting this season. The team makes regularly scheduled trips to the visit the children in the center.

“Children’s Harbor has absolutely become a part of the Blazer family,” said head coach Bill Clark. “I intend for this relationship to grow with our program. As we build, there will be even more we can do to provide encouragement and a positive distraction to support the terrific work Children’s Harbor does.”

On the homepage of Children Harbor’s website, the mission and goal of the charity can be defined.

Children’s Harbor provides children with serious illnesses and their families a place to be themselves – to have fun and relax – while also receiving no-cost services that make life a bit easier for the whole family.

UAB enters Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech at 2-2 on the year.

This is a really special tribute and an incredible way for a program to show support. Every college football fan will be rooting for UAB and Children’s Harbor this weekend.
