Aidan O’Connell is not expected to play in the Citrus Bowl against LSU to prepare for the NFL Draft, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The star Purdue QB is expected to make the announcement Thursday.

O’Connell had one of this best seasons in a Boilers uniform this year, throwing for 3,490 passing yards and 22 touchdowns. He led the Boilers offense to a B1G West title that fell to Michigan in the B1G Championship game a few weeks ago.

Skipping bowl games has become common suit, especially after Matt Corrall suffered a knee injury in a bowl game last season. From an athlete’s point of view, injuring yourself and throwing away millions just does not seem worth it for a game that does not ultimately matter.

O’Connell is likely a Round 5-7 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
