Mazi Smith won’t be sentenced until after Fiesta Bowl following a misdemeanor weapons charge.
The senior defensive tackle for Michigan was arrested back in October for having a magazine that held twice the standard number of bullets for a Glock 19 handgun while at a traffic stop.
It has now been made aware by court records that Smith, who was originally set for sentencing on Dec. 29 has now been moved to Jan. 12.

The new date comes 2 weeks after the original and will not affect the Fiesta Bowl, which Michigan will be playing in as part of the College Football Playoff against TCU. It will also now be after the national championship game on Jan. 9, 2023.
On Nov. 30, the felony weapons charge was authorized by the prosecutor, according to 15th District Court records. If convicted, Smith faces a punishment of up to five years in prison and a $2,500 fine, per Mlive.
