ESPN names three from B1G to midseason All-America team

We’ve reached the middle stretch of the college football season.
Though not every team has reached the halfway mark of their schedule quite yet, ESPN is taking the six-week mark as a good time to announce some of the top performers from the front end of the 2017 season.
On Monday, ESPN college football writer Adam Rittenberg released his midseason All-America team. Three players from the B1G earned a mention on the team, with two offensive players and one on defense.
Here were the three that received recognition from ESPN:
- Saquon Barkley, Penn State RB
- David Edwards, Wisconsin OT
- Josey Jewell, Iowa LB
Barkley is the no-brainer on the list, as he’s piled up 1,302 all-purpose yards (second-most nationally), and has accounted for 10 total touchdowns this season (six rushing, two receiving, one passing, one kickoff return).
Edwards has been a tough member of Wisconsin’s offensive line, which has helped pave the way for freshman sensation Jonathan Taylor this year.
And the lone defender, Jewell, is putting up the same ridiculous numbers he always does. The Iowa linebacker leads the B1G with tackles (70) and ranks second in tackles for loss (9.5). He’s also recorded 2.5 sacks and an interception on the season.
It’s likely that all three of those players will hold their spot for the All-America team that’s announced at the end of the year. But will any other B1G players work their way onto the team?
