If Michigan wants to stay in the B1G race, it’s going to have to overcome some pretty big odds. Well, at least according to ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI).
The Wolverines have been give a zero percent chance to go undefeated from this point forward and have been given extremely low odds to beat the three ranked teams remaining on the schedule: Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State.
After the loss to the Spartans in Ann Arbor, ESPN’s FPI has Michigan projected to finish the year around the eight-win mark. Here’s a look at the Wolverines’ win probability for the remaining seven games:
Michigan has below a 20 percent win probability against Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State. It’s still a heavy favorite in games against Rutgers, Minnesota and Maryland.
With Wilton Speight likely out the remainder of the season, it’s hard to know where the Wolverines will be able to find some stability offensively. As was apparent in the loss to Michigan State, there’s a lot of issues on that side of the ball for Jim Harbaugh and Co.
We’ll find out just how accurate ESPN’s FPI really is over the next seven weeks.
