Chris Holtmann and Ohio State had the incredible opportunity over the weekend to play in Madison Square Garden. That matchup against North Carolina lived up to the hype and turned into an overtime thriller.
Unfortunately, the final score did not go to the Buckeyes with the Tar Heels outpacing OSU in the overtime period. Still, the game provides some key experience for Ohio State in a big-time venue.

According to Holtmann, the game in MSG had a “high-level NCAA Tournament atmosphere” to it. He also noted the large amounts of blue worn inside the arena but was happy for the experience.
Chris Holtmann on the UNC game: “It felt like a high-level NCAA Tournament atmosphere. … There was a lot of blue there, but it was just a great environment and great venue.”

As for the national perception of the program, Holtmann believes the Buckeyes have remained relevant nationally for some time. Now, the group is hungry for greater success on a large scale.

Though the Buckeyes have made 4 NCAA Tournament appearances under Holtmann, the program has not advanced past the second round under his guidance. We’ll see if Ohio State can finally break through in March down the road.
