Mike Locksley sees ‘championships’ in the future with Maryland’s latest recruiting class

A championship coming to College Park in the near future? That’s what Maryland coach Mike Locksley believes.
Locksley said during an interview on B1G Network following the initial flow of the Early Signing Period that he feels his latest recruiting class will be able to push the Terps over the edge in the near future. Maryland currently has the No. 34 class in the 2023 cycle, according to 247Sports.

“We kind of validated that what we’ve been selling is actually coming into fruition,” Locksley said. “You know, anyone that’s watched our program in the last few years can see the trajectory of our program and how it’s one that’s definitely moving up.
“We feel like this class is the class that helps us start to compete for championships.”
The Terps landed a trio of 4-star recruits and 22 3-star recruits in their latest class. All 3 4-stars play on the defensive side of the ball, with Edge rusher Rico Walker from Hickory (N.C.) being the highest-rated of the bunch.
Maryland also added cornerback Kevis Thomas from Valdosta (Ga.), who could be an immediate contributor for the secondary coming out the gate next September.
The Terps finished 7-5 in 2022, with 3 close losses to Michigan, Ohio State, and Purdue. Maryland will face No. 23 N.C. State in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte on Dec. 30 at Noon E.T.
