The Ohio State Board of Trustees has approved an eight percent raise for head coach Urban Meyer after leading the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff last season.
According to Steve Berkowitz of USA Today, Meyer’s contract calls for a six percent raise annually but he was awarded the additional two percent for leading Ohio State to the College Football Playoff. That means that Meyer will received a bump over $100,000 more than what he was entitled on an annual basis.
Instead of receiving $321,180 in raise money, Meyer will be awarded $428,240. The increase pushes his salary to just over $6.4 million.
Currently, only four head coaches in college football coaches make over $6 million per year, with Alabama’s Nick Saban and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh leading the pack. Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and Meyer are the only other two coaches that surpass that mark.
The Buckeyes currently sit at 5-1 on the year and are ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press poll.
