Mayor urges NFL team to postpone Christmas Eve game due to rolling blackouts

As temperatures reach new lows throughout middle Tennessee, Nashville mayor John Cooper has a Christmas request for the Tennessee Titans.

Don’t play football against the Houston Texans. And no, it’s not because the Texans are 1-12-1 and few will enjoy freezing their faces off at Nissan Stadium.

Three hours prior to kickoff, Nissan Stadium began dealing with dangerous weather conditions on the field. With heaters blasting to warm up the turf, all power has been pressed to keeping the field in pristine conditions.

I’ve been informed that TVA’s unilateral rolling blackouts will continue. All non-essential businesses should reduce power usage. I’ve asked the @Titans to postpone their 12pm game in solidarity with our neighbors.

There’s a slight problem in Music City. Nashville has been dealing with rolling blackouts, leaving countless residents without power due to the snow storms in the area.

On Saturday, the Tennessee Valley Authority directed local power companies to “reduce load” and have planned intermittent interruptions to power supply due to high demand in sub-zero conditions.

Cooper posted his thoughts to Twitter asking the franchise to wait for the TVA can process all power to surrounding homes. The Titans have not commented on Cooper’s request as of this time. Saturday’s game could mark the one of the coldest matchups in franchise history, with kickoff temperatures expected to hover around 18 degrees.

The Titans are looking to get back on track with a win over the Texans.
