Controversy in Fiesta Bowl? Overturned TD for Michigan turns into TCU takeaway on ensuing play
Things are getting wild in the Fiesta Bowl, and Michigan might be in serious trouble against TCU.
After falling behind 14-0, the Wolverines turned in some big plays to appear to score a key touchdown. It all started with a Junior Colson pass deflection that resulted in an interception for Rod Moore.

On the ensuing possession, JJ McCarthy found Roman Wilson for a huge play, a big-time connection that was initially ruled a 51-yard touchdown grab. That play eventually went to review.
If upheld, the score would have made the score 14-10, TCU, with a big-time swing by the Wolverines. Instead, the play was overturned with Wilson ruled down at the one-yard line.
Though overturned, the ESPN booth felt the catch should have been upheld as a touchdown. It appeared Wilson did not have full control of the ball until his body was in the end zone, but it went down as no touchdown.

That ruling proved to be a big-time decision. On the ensuing play, Michigan fumbled the ball into the end zone with TCU recovering for a touchback.

While the Horned Frogs did not score on the ensuing possession, Michigan did get 7 points taken off the board. We’ll see if those points prove to be the difference when it’s all said and done.
