Ryan Day generates mixed reviews as Ohio State falls just short in CFP semifinals vs. Georgia

Ryan Day’s performance in the Peach Bowl has divided the college sports world.

Some on social media were impressed by the Buckeyes’ ability to keep it close against Georgia, while others felt that the head coach of Ohio State threw the game away. After Noah Ruggles missed a 50-yard FG, the Bulldogs won the game by a score of 42-41.

Social media naturally had a multitude of reactions, ranging from giving Day credit to fully blaming him for the loss.

CJ Stroud was scorching hot and Georgia was on their heels. Ryan Day then decided to take the ball out of his Heisman finalists hands, run the ball and lose a yard and burn a timeout.

Felt like after CJ made that long run Ryan Day had it in his mind that they were going for the field goal. The Buckeyes were so aggressive on offense all game and at the end you decide to settle?

Ryan Day did a great job for like 59 minutes in that game, then got conservative and set up his kicker for a 50-yarder from the left hash.

Game changed on the fake punt TO by Smart, and the Harrison hit to knock him out of the game.

Georgia defense hadn’t made a stop all day, players literally collapsing on the final drive, Stroud was marching down the field with two timeouts and Ryan Day said “ehh close enough!”

Ryan Day was pitching a perfect game going into the ninth. That second down run that signaled Ohio State was settling for 3 was like giving up a walk-off jack to lose it.

It seems that the majority of OSU fans do not blame Day for the loss, and in fact, believe he coached a good game. Nevertheless, bitter losses always bring out some critics, and it’s bound to be a long offseason for Day and the Buckeyes thinking of this one.

The National Championship is now set, as TCU will battle Georgia on Jan. 9 in SoFI Stadium in Los Angeles.
