James Franklin addresses the immediate impact of Abdul Carter throughout 2022 season

James Franklin opened up on the impact of most of his key players including true freshman linebacker Abdul Carter.
On Sunday, Franklin talked about the immediate impact that Carter brought to the team. According to Franklin, the 4-star LB in the 2022 recruiting class arrived with a college-ready body and a knack for locating the football:
“All the freshmen say they want to play, but not all the freshmen really understand what it takes, and he had a very mature approach from the time he stepped on campus,” Franklin explained. “He was not a guy that came in early, which sometimes can make that even more challenging. He already was kind of college ready in terms of his body.
“Once he got on campus, he was able to pick up the system quickly. He’s got the ability to find the ball, which at the linebacker position you can teach those things, but some of those guys kind of naturally have it.”

Through 12 games this season, Carter has accounted for 55 total tackles, 35 solo tackles, a team-high 10.5 tackles for loss, a team-high 6.5 sacks, 4 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles.
Carter came into Penn State as a 4-star linebacker from Glenside, Pennsylvania in the 2022 recruiting class. He was rated as the 28th-rated linebacker and the 10th-rated in the state, according to 247Sports Composite.
No. 11 Penn State is set to take on No. 8 Utah in the 2023 Rose Bowl on Monday, Jan. 2.
