Ohio State loses veteran defensive end to NCAA Transfer Portal

Ohio State has been had a rough beginning of 2023. First, the Buckeyes lose to No. 1 Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day.

On Monday, the Buckeyes saw one of their more experienced and talented edge rushers in Javontae Jean-Baptiste enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

This season was the best year of his collegiate career. He accounted for 19 total tackles, 9 solo tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and a forced fumble. In his 4 years at Ohio State, Jean-Baptiste has accumulated 51 total tackles, 25 solo tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Jean-Baptiste is a former 4-star prospect from Oradell, New Jersey in the 2018 recruiting class. He was the 16th-rated outside linebacker and 6th-rated player from the state of New Jersey, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

He choose to play for Ohio State over 22 other collegiate programs that gave him offers including Nebraska, Texas A&M, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
