Former Ohio State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle intoxicated, according to reports.
According to Columbus’ WCMH, Smith was not arrested but was issued a court summons after being caught at a DUI checkpoint. Smith was charged on Friday night after marijuana paraphernalia was located in his vehicle.
Smith played with the Buckeyes from 2002-2006 and was the Heisman Trophy winner at the end of the 2006 season. That year, he threw for 2,542 yards and 30 touchdowns as Ohio State finished the year 12-1, with the only loss coming in the BCS National Championship game. He also rushed for 204 yards and a score that season.
Smith was taken in the fifth-round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He then bounced around between the NFL and CFL but was never able to find a stable home in the professional ranks.
