A former Illinois commitment has flipped his decision and will attend an SEC school instead.
Avery Jones, a veteran OL in the transfer portal, committed to Illinois back in December. But, on Tuesday, Jones flipped his commitment to Auburn, announcing the decision via Twitter, along with the caption “time to get to work…War Eagle!”

Jones has one year of eligibility remaining after spending the past three years at East Carolina. He was a four-star recruit in the 2018 class and spent his freshman season at North Carolina. Jones was rated the No. 4 guard by 247Sports in his freshman campaign.
Jones had committed to Illinois back in December, and it’s unknown why he decided to flip his commitment. But, according to Illinois head coach Bret Bielema, Jones’ flip is apparently not much of a concern for the Illini. When the loss of Jones was noted on social media, Bielema posted a response simply saying “Loss????”
