Illinois football is in the process of rounding out the 2023 recruiting class. Following a much-improved performance under Bret Bielema in 2022, the Illini are looking to build on an 8-win season moving forward.
On the recruiting trail, Illinois locked in an in-state long snapper Tuesday. The player is Patrick Mahoney, a 6-foot-2 and 205-pound long snapper out of Glenbrook North.

“…Thank you to Coach Miller, Coach Ryan and Coach Bielema for this incredible opportunity,” wrote Mahoney. “With that being said, I am humbled to announce I will be playing for the Fighting Illini next year! The work is only starting!”
As for the rest of Illinois’ 2023 recruiting class, Bielema has signed 22 high school prospects, a group that ranks No. 46 nationally. Illinois has also picked up a trio of transfer prospects, including former Ole Miss QB Luke Altmyer.
