Purdue is set to lose some depth and experience in the offensive backfield with news that running back King Doerue is entering the transfer portal.
Doerue has made that decision, Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports reported, after he’s rushed for 1,142 yards in 4 seasons with the Boilermakers. Doerue appeared in 4 games this past season and had 27 carries for 97 yards and 3 touchdowns. He dealt with a calf injury that caused him to miss games.
Entering last season, Doerue was expected to be the lead back at a running back position that was set to include the likes of Dylan Downing, Sampson James, Tyrone Tracy, Devin Mockobee, Caleb Lahey, Kentrell Marks and Terence Thomas.
In 2021, Doerue appeared in 12 games with 6 starts and led the team in rushing with 533 yards on 135 carries with a pair of rushing touchdowns. He also caught 120 passes for 156 yards and averaged 3.9 yards per carry and 7.8 yards per catch.
Doerue coming out of high school in Amarillo, Texas was a 3-star recruit.
