Patrick McCaffery made the anticipated return from his leave of absence Sunday against Rutgers and made an immediate impact for the Hawkeyes, splashing a 3-pointer just a minute after checking in.

McCaffery did not start for Iowa, instead coming in after the first TV timeout. The 6-foot-9 junior and son of head coach Fran McCaffery rose up and hit a triple to give Iowa the lead against the Scarlet Knights at around the halfway point of the first half.

McCaffery checked in amid a standing ovation from the Hawkeyes crowd.

McCaffery makes his return to the court for Iowa after a 6-game hiatus. The star junior originally revealed that he would be out on leave of absence for an undisclosed amount of time with anxiety issues.

Iowa went on to win at home against the Scarlet Knights, with McCaffery adding 11 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds. The Hawkeyes are a better team with McCaffery on the floor, and now Iowa’s sights are set to finishing strong to earn a bid in March.
