Jaden Akins just barely beat the buzzer at halftime of Saturday’s game against Rutgers.

With the Scarlet Knights looking to hold for a final shot against Michigan State, Akins was able to poke the ball free on the defense end of the floor. As Tyson Walker recovered the loose ball, Akins was already streaking down the court with time winding down.

Walker’s lob pass over the top was beautifully placed and bounced right into the hands of Akins. In less than a second, Akins got the quick layup off and in for the 25-19 Michigan State lead at the break.

The first half was a grind and the defensive style of Michigan State and Rutgers is not for the faint of heart. The Spartans were able to grab control down the first-half stretch with some key plays, including a brilliant block by Tyson Walker.

At the break, Walker leads the Spartans with 7 points. Mawot Mag leads the Scarlet Knights with 7 points while Cliff Omoruyi has chipped in 6 points and 5 rebounds.
