With the first College Football Playoff rankings coming on Tuesday, everybody is coming up with their own version of which four teams will work their way into the picture.
On Monday, FOX Sports radio host Colin Cowherd couldn’t wait to give his top four rankings after Week 9 of the college football season. And B1G fans are going to love Cowherd’s comments.
First, Cowherd believes that two B1G teams — Ohio State and Penn State — are getting into the final four spots, as well as Alabama and Clemson. That’s pretty bold itself, as no conference has had two representatives in the first three seasons of the playoff system.
But what makes his comments even better? He says there should be no way that SEC gets two teams into the College Football Playoff, even if Georgia and Alabama are both unbeaten in the conference title game.
“I don’t want to hear about Alabama-Georgia,” Cowherd said. “They play probably in the last game of the year on a neutral field. It makes absolutely no sense. First of all, the SEC is not good enough this year to have two teams. And it makes absolutely no sense to have Bama play Georgia on a neutral field and then have them play three weeks later on a neutral field. Penn State-Ohio State can play again because they haven’t played on a neutral field, and yeah, that matters in college football.
“There’s no way I’m keeping Penn State out after losing to, who I think will win the national championship, Ohio State by a point. Georgia-Alabama, you’re playing on a neutral field. That is your playoff game.”
Some bold comments from Cowherd, who clearly has no room for two SEC teams in his College Football Playoff.
Could the B1G be the first conference to get two teams into the mix? There’s still a month of football left, but it’s definitely setting up to be one of the more interesting scenarios we’ve seen.
