Corey Campbell is a new hire at Nebraska as the strength and conditioning coach, and he met with the media on Wednesday to discuss his background and passion for the job.

“At the end of the day, 45 pounds is 45 pounds, you’ve got to pick up the barbell and you’ve got to train,” Campbell said. “I’m a firm believer that there’s no substitute for strength and no excuse for the lack of it. So from that standpoint, we’re going to get on the barbell and we’re going to train. It takes work to achieve the goals that you set for yourself.”

Campbell’s motivation stems from his walk-on experience at Georgia where he viewed the weight room as a way to be a contributor on the team.

“We understand the level of commitment that those guys have to have in order to make the teams they’re trying to be on, but also to be huge contributors on those team,” he said. “So it’s huge, the walk-on culture that Nebraska has, even coming from that background, it means even more to me to help these guys know understand that you can achieve what you want to achieve, if you’re willing to put in the work.”

Campbell was with Matt Rhule with the Carolina Panthers in 2021 and 2022 as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Panthers. Campbell was also on Rhule’s staff at Baylor, spending four seasons with the Bears.

Campbell’s first full-time job came at Cincinnati, where he was an assistant director of strength and conditioning for the 2016 season.
