Scoreboard catches fire at Jersey Mikes Arena during Northwestern-Rutgers game
By Ethan Stone
Published:
Northwestern and Rutgers were not lighting the world on fire in the first half of their regular season finale Sunday. At least, not on the court.
Above the court, however, was a different story. It seems the first half of offensive basketball between the 2 was so bad that the scoreboard at Jersey Mike’s Arena caught fire, halting play.

Eventually, the issue was resolved. The 2 combined to score just 46 points in the first half.
A lot on the line
There is a lot on the line between these 2 teams, especially for Northwestern. The Wildcats will earn a 2-seed in the B1G tournament with a win against the Scarlet Knights, but will be the 9-seed should they lose.
Rutgers will be either the 8 or 9 seed with a win/loss. A win means they face Northwestern again while a loss means they will face Northwestern Michigan.
