Mark Turgeon, former Maryland coach, linked to head coaching vacancy

Mark Turgeon is a candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Wichita State, according to a report.
That’s per college basketball insider Jeff Godman, who notes that this would be Turgeon’s 2nd stint with the Shockers. He coached Wichita State from 2000-07 before leaving for Texas A&M.
One name I keep hearing that will be in the mix for Wichita State: Mark Turgeon.
Coached Shockers for 7 seasons from 2000-07 when they were still in the Valley.

Turgeon hasn’t coached since stepping away from the Maryland job in December of 2021. He coached the Terps from 2011-21 and had an overall record of 226-116.
He led Maryland to 5 NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure. The Terps were also on track to make the Big Dance in 2020 before COVID-19 caused the tournament to be canceled.
Turgeon, 58, is a Kansas native. He was born in Topeka, Kansas, and played for the Jayhawks from 1983-87. He also began his coaching career as an assistant at KU.
Turgeon was named Missouri Valley Coach of the Year in 2006 during his 1st stint with the Shockers.
