Ryan Walters is preparing for his first season as a head coach, taking over Purdue after Jeff Brohm left for Louisville. Walters is also making one change to his newly-constructed coaching staff.

On Tuesday, the Boilermakers announced the addition of Marcus Johnson to serve as the offensive line coach. Johnson comes to the program after stints as an OL coach for Missouri (2020-22), Mississippi State (2018-19) and Duke (2016-17).

Walters and Johnson worked alongside each other during the 2020 season at Missouri.

“It is exciting to be reunited with Marcus and bring him here to Purdue,” said Walters via press release. “Marcus is a bulldog on the recruiting trail and commands attention as a coach. His experience as a player and now as a coach will immediately help our guys in the offensive line room. Marcus’ character aligns with our program’s core values.”

Outlook for Purdue

With Matt Mattox unexpectedly leaving the program recently after being hired in January, adding Johnson is a nice win for Walters heading into his first stints as a head coach. He lands an experienced assistant and one he worked alongside previously in his career.
