Maryland is losing one of its top scorers heading into the offseason.
According to his Instagram account, Terps guard Hakim Hart announced his intent to enter the upcoming NBA Draft. While Hart could change his mind and head back to school with 1 more year of eligibility, the senior said he would look to enter the transfer portal rather than return to College Park.
“I’m excited to announce that I will be pursuing my lifelong dream and declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility and also entering my name in the transfer portal to assure I make the best decision for my family,” Hart wrote.
Hart spent 4 seasons with the Terps and became a focal point of their offense in 2020. Last season, he averaged a career-best 11.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. For his career, Hart averaged roughly 8.3 points per outing to go along with 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
Hart was recruited by former Maryland coach Mark Turgeon out of Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia. Turgeon and the Terps mutually agreed to part ways after 11 seasons mid-season following a 5-3 start to the 2021 campaign.
The Terps hired Seaton Hall’s Kevin Willard in the offseason and saw much more stable production. Maryland finished 22-13 overall and ranked 5th in the B1G standings. The Terps were eliminated last weekend in the Round of 32 against top-seeded Alabama.
