Ohio State rolls past UConn, punches trip to Elite Eight for first time in 30 years

Ohio State is still alive in the women’s NCAA Tournament, dancing into the Elite Eight. On Saturday, the Buckeyes dialed a big-time performance while taking down No. 2 seed UConn, 73-61.

One of the early daggers in the game came from Rikki Harris. She drilled a corner 3-pointer to put Ohio State up by 16 points with 8:20 left in the game. That was more than enough cushion for the Buckeyes to ice the game away for the win.

The leading scorer for the Buckeyes in the game was Cotie McMahon with 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting. Jacy Sheldon also added 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals for Ohio State.

Defensively, Ohio State made sure to stifle the Huskies from deep while holding UConn to 6-for-23 shooting from 3-point range. UConn also committed 25 turnovers with the Buckeyes registering 13 steals.

With the win, Ohio State is now through to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1993.

With Ohio State’s win, the B1G now has 3 teams still standing in the Elite Eight field. Maryland will face No. 1 seed South Carolina, Iowa will face Louisville and Ohio State will face the winner of Virginia Tech vs. Tennesee with a shot at the Final Four.
