Jayden Epps was a key 4-star prospect and freshman contributor for Illinois during the 2022-23 season. Unfortunately, it looks like Epps’ time in Champaign may already be drawing to a close.

On Tuesday, Epps announced via social media that he’s officially entering the transfer portal:

“…I want to thank my teammates who have become like family,” Epps wrote. “I will always cherish the relationships I have built.

“I appreciate the unwavering passion and support of Illini fans, whose energy and enthusiasm at every game have made playing college basketball an incredible experience.

“After careful consideration and discussions with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. I am confident that this is the best decision for my future and personal growth.”

Coming out of high school, Epps was a 4-star prospect and the No. 72 player nationally per the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. He appeared in 31 games as a true freshman and tied for 4th on the Illini with 9.5 points per game. Epps also averaged 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists and shot 41% from the field.

We’ll see where Epps winds up but he is likely to have a host of suitors in the transfer portal. He joins Skyy Clark as members of Illinois’ 2022 recruiting class to head for the portal.
