Just a few weeks, the Heisman Trophy had already been handed to Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. But after losses in back-to-back weeks, the junior ball-carrier’s Heisman hopes have taken a hit.

ESPN recently updated its Heisman Watch following Week 10 in college football. And while Barkley is still one of the top prospects, he’s slipped down to third on the list. Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and Stanford running back Bryce Love sit in the top two spots.

The reason for the drop? Well, ESPN was pretty blunt about it.

“For the second straight week, Barkley was stifled, ending the game with 111 total yards rushing, receiving and returning kicks,” the website reads.

Barkley rushed for just 63 yards against Michigan State last week and failed to reach the end zone in Penn State’s 27-24 loss.

Though the last two weeks have been a struggle, Barkley still has 1,761 all-purpose yards, which is second-most in college football. He’s also accounted for 15 total touchdowns this year and has scored as via rusher, receiver, passer and kick returner.

With three weeks still remaining, Barkley has a chance to make one final statement. But at this point, he might need a little help from the two players ahead of him at this point in the season.
