Maryland safety Markquese Bell no longer with program

A former four-star recruit and member of Maryland’s 2017 recruiting class is no longer with the program, D.J. Durkin announced on Tuesday.
Markquese Bell — who committed to the program in January — is no longer with the team and withdrew from the university. He had been suspended since August and did not see any time on the field this fall.
He was expected to be an immediate difference-maker for the Terrapins this season.

Bell is a native of Bridgeton, New Jersey and was ranked No. 194 nationally in last year’s recruiting class. He was tabbed as the seventh-best athlete and a top three prospect from the state.
As a recruit, Bell held 19 offers and chose Maryland over Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Clemson and Georgia.
The reason for Bell’s suspension was never clarified but it was serious enough to keep one of the team’s top athletes off the field for the entirety of the season.
