Michigan State got better on Monday.
The Spartans have landed a 2024 commitment from 4-star Haverhill (Mass.) Bradford Christian Academy shooting guard Kur Teng. The 6-foot-4 guard announced his pledge live on the 247Sports’ YouTube page. Teng chose the Spartans from a group of finalists that also included Rutgers and Providence, though it was believed to be down to MSU and Rutgers after Ed Cooley departed for Georgetown.
He said during his announcement on 247sports he feels MSU’s style of play fits him well.
“Their play style really fits me really well,” Teng said. “I like to come off pin-downs on the offensive end. Every time I watched them, there’s been a similarity between them and the way I play now with my team.”
Teng can put up points in bunches, with a physical style of play and several ways to attack a defense. A good mid-range shooter with a fluid jumper, Teng looks comfortable all over the floor. Last summer, he averaged 13.9 points a game while shooting 43% from the field and 37% from 3 for his Mass Rivals team in the Adidas 3SSB League.
He’s a 4-star recruit in the 2024 class, according to the industry-generated 247 Composite. Teng is ranked as the No. 1 prospect from the state of Massachusetts and the No. 8 shooting guard in the class. He’s also ranked as the No. 37 overall prospect in the country.
With the verbal pledge, Teng becomes MSU’s first known commit for the 2024 class.
