Jake Butt calls on Michigan’s offense to find ways to get JJ McCarthy more involved moving forward

Jake Butt made an appearance on Sirius XM’s ‘B1G Radio’ on Monday to talk about Michigan football. Butt weighed in on how QB J.J. McCarthy can become even better in Jim Harbaugh and Sherrone Moore’s offense.
Butt played TE at Michigan from 2013-2016 and knows Harbaugh’s system well. Butt believes that McCarthy could benefit from becoming more involved in the offense. Whether that’s more empty sets or finding the Michigan QB easier completions, McCarthy needs to be a bigger part of the offense according to Butt.
Butt specifically mentioned what happened in the College Football Playoff against TCU this past season.
“There’s nothing that he can’t do physically. There’s no limit. JJ talent-wise is up there with any QB in all of college football. Part of it is he can be helped by the scheme. In recent years you could say Michigan could run the ball 40 times a game and cakewalk their way to an undefeated season. If you’re Jim Harbaugh, Sherrone Moore what they should do is try to get JJ more involved. Allow them to showcase more of their offense unlike in the second half of the TCU game this year.”

Letting McCarthy have a bigger role on the offense could benefit Michigan greatly. It’ll be up to Harbaugh and Moore to decide at the end of the day.
