According to reports, Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud is meeting with the Indianapolis Colts on Friday. That is a visit that some feel may be a bit futile for the Colts.

Throughout the pre-draft process, Stroud and Alabama QB Bryce Young have flip-flopped as the favorites to be the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. With Indianapolis picking No. 4 as things currently stand, it seems to be a longshot that Stroud will be available when the Colts make their pick.

Nevertheless, NFL insider Ian Rapoport said Indianapolis is still doing its due diligence with the visit. Though unexpected, there remains a chance the Houston Texans could opt to draft pass-rusher Will Anderson out of Alabama.

“CJ Stroud, the Ohio State QB, the player most people believe would be taken in the top 2 picks of the draft, but the reality is no one knows, including the Colts,” Rapoport explained. “This pick, the fact that everyone behind them wishes the Texans just pass on a QB, take Will Anderson and move on from there.

“The Colts are doing their due diligence, meeting with CJ Stroud today. Obviously, it’s an important visit because if he is there, presumably he would be one of the very few players the Colts would consider taking, so the Colts are doing their homework.”

CJ Stroud’s draft outlook

The Colts would undoubtedly have interest if Stroud if he’s available, but that seems like a legitimate long shot, to say the least. It is hard to envision the Texans passing on the best QB available with the second pick in the draft, and it’s always a possibility the Arizona Cardinals trade the No. 3 pick to a team hungry for a QB.
