Michigan added to its top-ranked 2024 class on Tuesday.

Cheshire (Conn.) Academy defensive lineman Jerod Smith announced his commitment to the Wolverines on Twitter Tuesday evening. He chose Michigan over Nebraska, Alabama, and Kentucky.

Smith is a 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive lineman rated as a 4-star prospect in the 2024 class. The industry-generated 247 Composite has Smith ranked as the No. 4 recruit from the state of Connecticut, the No. 30 defensive lineman in the class, and the No. 270 overall recruit.

During his junior season last fall, Smith recorded 63 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and an interception.

With Smith now on board, Michigan will hope to double-dip at Cheshire Academy. On Saturday, Smith’s twin brother Jacob announced a Top 6 of Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama. He has a Crystal Ball prediction logged for Kentucky, but do things change now that Jerod is headed to Ann Arbor?

Jacob Smith is a 4-star edge defender, ranked as the No. 18 edge in the class.

With Jerod Smith’s verbal pledge, Michigan now has 14 known commitments to its 2024 class. It’s the second of the day for Michigan, and pushes the class up to No. 1 overall in the 247 rankings. You can view his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
