Armorion Smith is returning home, and the Cincinnati safety transfer announced a commitment to play in the B1G.
Smith, a Detroit native (River Rouge), will come to East Lansing with 3 years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defensive back revealed his choice on social media, “I’m coming home!”
This adds some depth at that position for the Spartans behind projected safety starters Jaden Mangham and Malik Spencer. Smith appeared in 12 games for the Bearcats last season as a backup safety and special teamer. He notched his first career interception and made 20 tackles.

The Michigander was rated the No. 71 safety in the class of 2021 according to 247 Sports’s composite rankings. Michigan State was reportedly in the mix for his commitment out of high school, but Cincinnati lost coach Luke Fickell this offseason to Wisconsin and Smith left new coach Scott Satterfield’s program for the portal in April.
