Iowa baseball reportedly at center of gambling investigation after 4 players sit out

Iowa is looking into a gambling situation involving its baseball team.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has launched an investigation into the Hawkeyes’ baseball team after players were suspended for the team’s series against Ohio State this past weekend, the Action Network reported.
An email from Iowa’s gaming commission came on the heels of the university announcing on Friday that they withheld “some student-athletes” from its upcoming games “due to a potential violation.” This news came less than a week after Alabama fired coach Brad Bohannon after bets involving Alabama baseball were halted in Ohio, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

“The commission takes the integrity of gaming in the state seriously and is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide any additional information when able,” said Brian Ohorilko, the director of gaming for the state’s commission.
Four players didn’t play this weekend for Hawkeye baseball games, On3Sports’ Kyle Heusmann reported. Two of those players, infielder Keaton Anthony and relief pitcher Jacob Henderson, stood out as regulars.
Anthony leads the team in on base percentage, batting average, slugging percentage and OPS. Henderson last pitched on May 2 vs. Illinois State, the Hawkeyes’ previous game.
Hearing that the NCAA is investigating several University of Iowa athletes, including at least one baseball player. The investigation surrounds student athletes and gambling.
The University of Alabama fired Brad Bohannon under similar circumstances on Thursday.
