Ohio State lineman Avery Henry announces his cancer is in remission

Ohio State offensive lineman Avery Henry is cancer-free.
Henry announced in December of last year that he had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that is most often found in teenagers and young adults. He began treatment in January at Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital and now, five months later, his cancer is in remission.

Henry is entering his second year with the Buckeyes after redshirting last fall. He signed with the program as a 3-star prospect from Saint Clairsville.
“I told the guys after it happened, things like this give you perspective in life,” coach Ryan Day said in December, per Eleven Warriors. “And this is a reason why you get into coaching is to have an impact on young people and help Avery fight this battle. But like we talked about with his family, there’s a reason why you’re here, there’s a reason why you’re a Buckeye. And maybe because along the way, you needed the James hospital, you need Buckeye Nation, you need this team to help you win this fight, and we’re here for you.”
It’s unclear if Henry will be able to play in 2023, but now his attention can turn back to the football field.
