Michigan has hired Shemy Schembechler to a role within its football program.

He is the son of longtime Michigan head coach Bo Schembechler. Shemy will serve as Michigan’s assistant director of football recruiting.

He announced his own hiring on Wednesday morning:

Schembechler spent most of the last 4 years as a scout with the Las Vegas Raiders organization.

Adding more recruiting staffers has become a popular trend amongst top college football programs in recent years. Schembechler will now help lead Michigan’s efforts on the recruiting trail alongside head coach Jim Harbaugh and numerous other coaches and staffers.

He’s inheriting a Michigan recruiting class that is in excellent shape so far in the class of 2024. The Wolverines already have 17 commitments and currently own the nation’s No. 1 class, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Bo Schembechler was the head coach at Michigan from 1969-89. He still holds the title of Michigan’s winningest coach in program history with 194 victories. He coached 247 total games with the Wolverines, which also stands as a Michigan record.
