Shemy Schembechler’s time with Michigan football was not very long.

On Saturday the son of the famed Michigan coach resigned from his position as an assistant director of football recruiting, according to multiple reports. Michigan’s athletic department eventually released a statement confirming his departure from the program.

Schembechler resigned after racially insensitive tweets were found in the “liked” section of his Twitter account. Among them were tweets appearing to support slavery and Jim Crowe segregation. His Twitter account was eventually deleted altogether.

Schembechler was hired by Michigan football on May 17 and was in the position for three days.

Schembechler most recently worked for the Las Vegas Raiders as a scout from 2019-2023. He also had experience in the NFL working for Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders, and Chicago Bears

His father Bo coached at Michigan from 1969-1989. Bo finished his tenure at Michigan with a 234-65-8 record. Bo led the Wolverines to multiple bowl game appearances and even won the AFCA and Walter Camp Coach of the Year awards in 1969. After coaching in Ann Arbor for all those years, Bo was also the AD at Michigan from 1988-1990.
