Joe Barna, elite DL out of Illinois, announces B1G commitment

Joe Barna, a 6-foot-4 and 240-pound defensive lineman out of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North), has announced a commitment to play in the B1G.

Barna, who has a reported 19 offers, committed to Illinois after he was recruited by Charlie Bullen. Barna made the announcement after a recent official visit to Illinois. He is the No. 27 prospect in the state of Illinois and No. 120 defensive lineman in the Class of 2024, according to 247Sports.

In continuing a trend, Barna is the 13th Illini commitment in the Class of 2024 and the 5th in-state commitment in the class. He followed WR Tysean Griffin (Morgan Park), OL/DL Eddie Tuerk (Lyons Township), TE Karsen Konkel (Pinckneyville) and OL Brandon Hansen (Mundelein). Barna chose Illinois over the likes of Wisconsin, where he also made an official visit, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Kansas and Washington State.
