Ohio State football is gearing up for the 2023 season, and the Buckeyes set their home game themes for the schedule ahead on Wednesday.

This season, the home finale will fall on Nov. 18 against Minnesota. That game will be Senior Day to cap the home slate for the Buckeyes.

One of the most notable themes — Scarlet the ‘Shoe — was announced with a marquee matchup. That game will feature Penn State on Oct. 21.

Homecoming this season will fall on Oct. 7 vs. Maryland.

Here are the full home game themes for the Buckeyes:

  • Sept. 9 vs. Youngstown State — Alumni Band and Faculty & Staff Appreciation
  • Sept. 16 vs. Western Kentucky — Scarlet & Gray and Buckeyes Care
  • Oct. 7 vs. Maryland — Homecoming and Hall of Fame
  • Oct. 21 vs. Penn State — Scarlet the ‘Shoe
  • Nov. 11 vs. Michigan State — Military Appreciation
  • Nov. 18 vs. Minnesota — Senior Day

Ohio State football key 2023 games

While the Penn State game is always a key showdown, 2 of Ohio State’s biggest games this season will take place away from home. The Buckeyes must face Notre Dame on the road on Sept. 23 and, of course, take on TTUN in Ann Arbor for The Game.

Other road games that should be wins for Ohio State but are notable include at Purdue (Oct. 14) and at Wisconsin (Oct. 28). Those 2 programs move into 2023 under new head coaches (Ryan Walters and Luke Fickell, respectively), so it will be interesting to see how the Boilermakers and Badgers play the Buckeyes.
