The Maryland-Georgetown rivalry is reportedly close to becoming a thing again. CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander reported the news on Thursday.
The two schools last met on the basketball court back in 2016. The series would start back up again in the 2024-2025 season if two sides can agree on it. The plan would have the series play out for four years at the least.
The Terps won the last meeting against the Hoyas 76-75. What makes the rivalry special is that the two schools are less than 15 miles of each other. In-state bragging rights are on the line whenever these two programs playing each other.

Maryland and Georgetown have been on two different trajectories recently.
The Terps reached the NCAA Tournament under Kevin Willard in his first season at the helm.
Georgetown finished the 2022 season at 7-25 and decided it was time to move on from Patrick Ewing, who played college basketball there. The Hoyas have since hired Ed Cooley after firing Ewing.
Rivalries like these are always great for college sports. If anything comes out of the talks then fans of both schools should be in for quite the treat.
Stay tuned for more updates about the series as the talks progress even further.
