There was some exciting news to report on Friday for Iowa women’s basketball fans. Lisa Bluder had her contract extended via an Iowa press release.
Bluder coached the Hawkeyes to the final of the NCAA Tournament this past season. Here’s what Iowa AD Gary Barta had to say about the news:
“Lisa has been an incredible leader for Iowa Women’s Basketball over many years,” said Barta. “Her ability to achieve sustained success at such a high level is remarkable.”
The contract extension will run through the 2029 season. Bluder is well deserving of the extension as the winningest coach in B1G history. Bluder will be entering her 23rd year with Iowa women’s basketball in 2023.
The Iowa coach spent time in similar roles with St. Ambrose (1984-1990) and Drake (1990-2000) before joining the Hawkeyes.
Bluder has most recently coached one of the more exciting players to watch in college basketball in Caitlin Clark. Clark averaged 27.8 points per game for the Hawkeyes last season and will be returning to play for Bluder once again in 2023.
Last season Iowa won the B1G Tournament and finished the year with a 31-7 record. The Hawkeyes went into the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed and made it to the final before losing to LSU.
It looks like Iowa women’s basketball will be in good hands.
